Director of News Operations: The TV revolution is upon us and KIAH-TV/Houston is leading the resistance and looking for a creative leader to be Director of News Operations to join the management team responsible for supervising and producing Newsfix, the first anchorless newscast and Morning Show Eye Opener. You must have a fiery passion to help re-invent traditional news on a daily basis, live & breathe new production technologies, content aggregation and not know the meaning of "can't do that". Candidates must have and/or be responsible for:
At least 3 years of news management and leadership experience.
Have led a large team of newsroom staff.
Must be an innovator of technology and trends.
Maintaining News Dept. HD digital workflow & all newsroom & multiplatform technical operations.
Conduct performance reviews.
Well versed in newsroom scheduling.
Strong IT and engineering knowledge.
Experience with SNG, ENG and digital transmission.
Experience with Sony XDCAM.
Expert in Final Cut Studio and server maintenance.
Must have a basic understanding of Pro Tools audio design software and CS5 graphic software.
Strong experience with VizRt graphics and newsroom rundown programs such as ENPS or iNews Have the ability to run a fully digital environment.
Must be a creative problem solver who can work well under pressure and deadline.
Experience in the use of Overdrive switcher automation, Vinten robotic studio cameras and Wheatstone automated audio equipment.
Work well with News Director, Executive Producer and Managing Editors to create new content.
Must have strong news judgment.
Ability to schedule employee travel and coordinate news coverage.
Must have a flexible schedule to meet needs of the department.

Part Time Final Cut Pro Editor: The KIAH-TV seeks a part-time Final Cut Pro Editor for a new morning show. We're recruiting a solid team of Final Cut Pro editors to collaborate on a groundbreaking AM news format unlike anything ever attempted on local TV. Duties will include editing VOs, SOTs and news packages in a short amount of time. Candidates need to be able to record satellite and microwave transmissions and must be experienced in FTP transfer. We are looking for candidates who are available to work a flexible schedule, who are self motivated, willing to learn and persons who require very little supervision. Candidates must have a minimum of two years in news editing and extensive experience using Final Cut Pro. Candidates must be able to work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment. Overall role is to work under the supervision of the managing editor along with the assignment desk and producers to oversee and manage story selection process for daily and weekend news broadcasts. Responsibilities include providing editorial judgment and guidance to producers and editors in developing, setting up and producing stories, planning for major news events, developing work schedules, revising and editing copy as well as to assign producers, editors and photographers to news stories. The successful candidate must have a strong journalistic background, and demonstrate sound judgment. BA/BS, 5+ years experience on the assignment desk or other applicable news room experience required. Excellent verbal/written communication skills, strong organizational abilities and a collaborative work ethic a must. Experience with ENPS newsroom production software and Solid leadership and effective management skills are critical for success. Previous News experience in the Houston market a plus. Part Time Engineering Operators Technician (EOT): KIAH-TV seeks a Part Time EOT. Responsibilities: Acts as Master Control Operator and/or Video Tape Operator. In Master Control the applicant must: know and understand the Children's Act of 1990 & use it to verify children's programs are within the rules, maintain an accurate log & write a report of discrepancies for KIAH & USN, can accurately check every aspect of each log in the automation system with all provided timing sheets & make certain all programs, commercials, promos & PSAs match, be able to insert certain events over automation, be able to manually run MC, understand & implement FCC rules governing EAS, be able to read & implement all & new procedures for maintaining "on air". In Video Tape the applicant must: operate the transmitter by a computerized remote control system & keep a log, record & prep all programs for air as directed, applies FCC rules regarding children's programming to everything prepped or ingested, be able to edit, be able to operate all equipment in the area, be able to read & implement all & new procedures for all work being done. Requirements: Should have a two-year degree in communications, engineering, or equivalent experience. Requires a valid Texas driver's license. Work requires considerable judgment in quickly developing the best solution to problems. Typically requires two to five years experience in broadcast operations, production, or maintenance in a television station. Frequently sits, walks, stands or lifts. Must be able to discriminate color, hue, and fine detail on a video monitor. Must be able to hear distortion in an audio program. Must be able to operate a personal computer. Must be able to inform manager & next person on shift to all problems & issues that have occurred during their shift & their status. Work may include shifts that are morning, afternoon and overnight, possible weekends and holidays. May be required to work shifts longer than 8 hours. May be required to work overtime.
