Today's the Grand Re-opening of Ikea in Houston. And a local ad company had come up with a great commercial to promote it. But some stations in H-Town felt the grand re-opening could get people a little too excited.
Why you ask? The commercial played on the fact that the re-opening is on June 9th or 6-9. So when you watch the ad it has big red numbers 69 and says -- in the bedroom, in the kitchen, in the office, in the bathroom, the best date ever. And then tags out, "Starting June 9th, It's a Whole New Ikea".
Watch it for yourself.
Now personally I think the ad is super clever and definitely gets your attention. I cannot believe that stations banned it. Seriously it's ok to have the KY Jelly or even sexy hair commercials, but not this? Those are pretty raunchy. People get your mind out of the gutter, it's June 9th or 6-9. And even if your mind is in the gutter I doubt kids are going to go, "Mommy what's 69?". If they don't already know what it is.
Looks like I'm not alone in my thinking. Here's what some of our 39 viewers had to say:
Stephanie Elise Stafford: i think its funny! Cannot be anymore risque than the KY commercials! LOL
Laura Upton: Goodness- that's kinda silly that it's banned! Only adults would even understand the reference! I think it's funny, too.
Kyle Jones: I think they replaced the ad with a trailer for some movie with people eating each other.
