The controversial online dating website, Beautifulpeople.com is behind the virtual sperm and egg bank.
In case you're not familiar with Beautifulpeople.com it's a dating website that only accepts attractive members. Basically, current members vote on whether or not you can join. And they're not afraid to voice their opinions. 5,000 people were given the boot after packing on some extra holiday pounds.
Now the site is taking it upon itself to further fight unattractiveness by allowing members who cannot have children to be matched with potential donors. And the Beautiful Baby Service has been extended to non-members. People looking for donors can log onto a forum and discuss what they want their children to look like.
The website's owners say every parent would want a beautiful child if given the choice.
Founder Robert Hintze says, "Initially, we hesitated to widen the offering to non-beautiful people. But everyone -- including ugly people -- would like to bring good looking children in to the world, and we can't be selfish with our attractive gene pool."
Couples and women looking for donors are able to join the new fertility forum. Men are also able to register to donate sperm.
After connecting on the online service, BeautifulPeople.com will refer the members to clinics for further information and for the actual donation.
Hintze went on to say that they haven't created the virtual sperm bank for financial gains, but as a response to demand from users.
Beautifulpeople.com was launched in 2002 and says it has over 600,000 members in 190 countries. And the site claims that 600 babies have been born to people who met through the site already. They hope the beautiful baby bank will just speed up that process.
But what do our viewers think about "cherry picking" beautiful donors?
Carlos V Roman: There's a niche social network out there for everyone. The company is simply servicing a niche market and a need. Good for them.
Joe Anthony: Without us ugly people, we wouldn't have an internet. The gene pool need us!
Suzykai: If Picasso want ugly he wouldnt have become one of the greatest artists who ever lived. If Napoleon wasn't small, he would never have become one of the greatest military strategists ever and the Emperor of half the world. All life is a question of Balance, of good and bad. Both need to co-exist to make a whole.
