HOUSTON—
A night out at the theater has never been such a good deal thanks to a new push by the Houston Arts Alliance. The group has partnered with the national Theatre Communications Group to offer a Free Night of Theater. That's when several Houston theaters are offering free performances hoping to get more people interested in the theater.
This is the first year Houston has joined in on the free ticket program that's already proved successful in other large cities. Last year, more than 65,000 free tickets were given out for 1,700 performances nationwide.
Free performances in Houston will be from Oct. 8 to 18 and will feature 20 organizations, including Theater Under the Stars, The Houston Ballet and the Houston Grand Opera.
More than 2,000 tickets were up for order Monday morning and as of Monday afternoon, only a couple dozen were left.
