HOUSTON - 39 News has learned that prominent Houston attorney John O'Quinn died in a car crash.

O'Quinn and law firm partner, Johnny Cutliff were killed Thursday morning when their black Surburban crashed on Allen Parkway. Investigators believe speed and slick roads may have played a factor on the fatal accident.

Police say the SUV was traveling westbound when it skidded out of control. The vehicle jumped a curb and crashed in a tree around 8:15 a.m. Police say O'Quinn was behind the wheel of the SUV. Neither men were wearing seatbelts.

Colleagues of both O'Quin and Cutliff spoke on behalf of the two men's families at a press conference on Thursday afternoon.

"Anytime you lose not one but two members of your family its a tough day," says Don Clark, friend and law firm partner.

John O'Quinn spent many years giving back to the Houston community. Johnny Cutliff was his right-hanf working for the firm for twenty-six years.

Thought the fatal accident is still a vivid picture in the minds of friends and family, they are focusing on the positive.

"We will remember John and Johnny as a boss and friend, fellow employees and advocates," says Chris Steed, managing attorney for the O'Quinn Law Firm.

According to the O'Quinn Law Firm web site, O'Quinn was named one of the "100 Most Influence Lawyers in America," by the National Law Journal.
