Black Friday isn't expected to disappoint retailers or shoppers this year. Local malls and shopping centers were packed with holiday shoppers.
Many at Memorial City Mall say they noticed the discounts are a lot more enticing this year. They believe the economy may have something to do with it.
Retailers had predicted a one percent drop in holiday spending this season so many of them decided to space out their door busters. Instead of having them all on Black Friday, retailers started their sales much earlier in the week causing some shoppers to give the last few days new names.
"Black Monday, Black Tuesday, Black Wednesday, rest on Thursday, then Black Friday," joked Jeanie Tate, a local shopper. "They are predicting a decline," Sherry Burton, Memorial City Mall Marketing Director, said about retailers. "We think we might buck that trend."
Retailers are confident they can get more people in the door with creative marketing and new sales tactics. The door buster deals will continue Saturday morning and many retailers will be extending their normal store hours.
