She was carjacked and kidnapped and survived to tell her story.
It happened this past weekend in the 1900 block of 21st street in Galveston. The man jumped into a running car while the victim sat terrified in the passenger seat.
The twenty year old victim said she wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for police officers who spotted the man speeding.
Amesahia Merida's bruises and scratches are painful.
"I was shacking," said Merida. "I was scared, my life was in danger."
Media said it's the thought of her life almost coming to a brutal end that hurts more.
It all happened Sunday, Merida was waiting in her friend's car while she made a quick stop at her dad's house. The keys were inside and the door was unlocked. Police said Timothy Allen Edward spotted the young girl alone inside.
"He just hopped in put the car in reverse and he took off so fast (he) started speeding," recalls Merida.
The young woman panicked. In tears, she begged Edward to pull over but he showed no mercy.
"I was stuck in the car with a crazy man," said Merida.
Police said Edward had a hatchet and threatened Merida with the weapon. She said he had plans of taking her to east beach.
"He said he was going to kill me and bury me," said Merida.
A police officer patrolling near Stewart Beach spotted Edward speeding down the seawall. Officers then chased after him and things took a different turn.
"I tried to honk the horn and everything," said Merida. "Next thing you know he started swerving."
Edward lost control and smashed into another vehicle and Merida's frightening ordeal came to a crashing end.
"Thank God I am still alive and hopefully I will have a better life," said Merida.
Edward was arrested after being released from the hospital but Merida hopes he will stay there for a long time.
"God knows what he will do to someone else," said Merida.
Merida knows her scars will soon heal but the memory of the ordeal will be everlasting.
Police said Edward was under the influence of PCP and has a criminal record. He's facing a number of charges including kidnapping and aggravated robbery.
