More than a hundred animals are in SPCA custody. They were given a second chance after a major rescue in Grimes County.
At the SPCA in Houston, a tiny little dog was so sacred he couldn't stop shaking. Outside of the examining room, more dogs just like him waited for their turn to see the veterinarian.
The dogs were lucky to be found just in time but they were not the only ones rescued.
"One hundred miniature horses that were surrendered by their owner," said Stacey Fox with the Houston SPCA.
The miniature horses were found weak and hungry. Grimes County Sheriff investigators said the owner admitted the slumping economy took its toll on her pocket book. She couldn't afford to care for the animals any longer and gave them up.
"This is another example of how the plunging economy is affecting owners of domestic animals and owners of horses and farm animals," said Fox.
The rescue comes days after a thousand animals were found at another home outside of Houston. Birds, dogs and rabbits were living in poor conditions.
The animals recovered today will be nursed back to health.
"We will do our best to place them in loving new homes where they will be loved forever," said Fox.
Eventually they will all be put up for adoption.
