Police say 41 year old Jane Draycott of Magnolia stole almost $220 worth of merchandise from the Walmart on Kuykendahl last night.

"i believe it was a DVD player, a couple of DVDs and a bag of ice," says Precinct Four Deputy Chief Constable Mark Herman of the items Draycott allegedly tried to take from the store.

Herman says police have witness accounts and the alleged crime may have been captured by surveillance.

A background check suggests this is Draycott's first criminal offense but it is not her first encounter with the law.

A Houston fire fighter, Draycott's name first surfaced over a year ago when she and another woman claimed racist and sexist graffiti was written on the walls of their Station 54 dormitory.

Draycott filed a suit against the city of Houston for the incident and other allegations of harassment by fellow members of HFD. She dropped that suit about two weeks ago.

Today Draycott's attorney, Rusty Hardin declined an on camera interview but said his client is going through termendous emotional stress relating to her personal life.

He says "she snapped."

The Fire Department is officially withholding judgement. Acting Chief Rick Flanagan says Draycott is innocent until proven guilty.

"i want her to have the opportunity to clear her name," he says.

Draycott, who is out on bond, is due in court later this month.
