Flashing lights and car wreckage shutdown the intersection of 249 and North Houston Bammel, Friday night.
Investigators say the driver of a white Chevy truck ran a red light and slammed into a family of seven.
"We have witnesses that say that vehicle was weaving in and out of traffic," said Sgt. S. Wolverton with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "We have a couple of witnesses who say they had to swerve to avoid being struck by that vehicle."
Allison Brown-Winkfield says she was driving next to the truck just before the accident and backed off.
"As I looked over, I looked him dead into his face and I could tell he was intoxicated and I quickly said to myself, 'He's intoxicated. He's drunk as a skunk," she said.
Moments later, Brown-Winkfield says the truck sped off and she heard a crash.
"I could see a spare wheel just catapult into the air about 50 feet," she said.
Harris County Sheriff's deputies say four children were inside the suburban and one of them was ejected.
"One of those passengers of the vehicle was unrestrained, the 3-year-old and was ejected from the vehicle," said Sgt. Wolverton.
"There was a baby laying on the floor, had blood all over and head kind of gashed open," Brown-Winkfield said.
Everyone inside the suburban was taken to the hospital and four were life-flighted.
Investigators say the driver at fault was not hurt and was clear he had been drinking.
"Yeah, there is an open cold to the touch beer can in the driver floorboard," Sgt. Wolverton said.
Investigators say everyone in the family should make a full recovery from their injuries.
The driver of the truck was arrested and faces intoxication assault charges.
"My heart really goes out to this family, because when I met the guy at 249, I just had an ill feeling and that's what made me stay back," said Brown-Winkfield.
