There is a still a lot of cleaning-up to do. The sofas, mattresses and so much more at the I-45 Gallery Furniture location, after a massive fire there last month.
For employees, July 4, will be more than a holiday--it's a day to reopen. That's when North Freeway location plans to open its doors in phases.
"I think the remodeling will be a triumph of good over evil," said owner, Jim McIngvale.
Two weeks ago, fire gutted the warehouse. It caused $20 million in damage. ATF investigators call it arson, and say the fire was intentionally set.
Besides seeing what's left of the warehouse, we also saw a bag full coins and cash totaling $211.
McIngvale says the money came from a little boy recently. Money he was saving for an Ipod. Now, its going to charity. McIngvale also displayed cards customers have sent offering support. Big support came from the insurance company: a first payment of $3 million to help get the store open again.
McIngvale has support and a date to reopen, but there is something he doesn't have: a lawyer.
"I have no lawyer, I would rather cut off my arms than destroy my lifes work for 28 years," he said.
