The National Retail Federation had expected a decline in holiday spending this year, prompting several chains to open Thanksgiving Day to get a jump-start on Black Friday. Retailers are hoping to get people in the door with the deep discounts.

Hundreds of local shoppers rushed to Garden Ridge in Webster to take advantage of the chain's Thanksgiving Day sale.

From Christmas trees, to ornaments, to poinsettias; many items were 30, to 50 , to even 75 percent off! Some say it's some of the best deals they've seen on Christmas decorations.

"It's been awesome," said Ron Dansereau, Garden Ridge's co-manager. "I had hundreds of people at the door when I opened at 8AM this morning. You can imagine what we're going to have on Black Friday. Great turn out... everything is going smooth."

"I think stores should be closed on Thanksgiving," said Julie Jankowski. "I think people should be home with their families, but the deals were too good so."

The store manager tells us it's becoming a Garden Ridge tradition to open on Thanksgiving Day. He also said jump-starting the holiday shopping season, will allow workers to be off earlier for Christmas.

Garden Ridge will remain open until midnight on Thanksgiving. They're not the only store to open on Thanksgiving Day though. There is Wal-Mart, Old Navy, and many other stores. Garden Ridge will reopen at 6am on Friday and you can find the many deals on their ads.
