The school is located in southeast Montgomery County.

"The young lady explained that she had brought the gun. Her grandfather had it from the war, and she just wanted to show it to her friends. Basically she showed it to two or three students, put it back in the backpack and never took it out again. She never said anything to anybody and took it home," said New Caney Superintendent of Schools Kenn Franklin.

The child also had bullets, according to Franklin. He says they were in a separate container and were never loaded into the .22 caliber handgun.

Under New Caney ISD rules the girl will be automatically expelled from Kings Manor Elementary. There is a district wide rule against guns in New Caney ISD buildings. The student will be sent to an alternative educational program, even though she had no violent intentions.

"No violent intentions, she wasn't upset about anything. It was just a matter of bad show and tell," said Franklin.

The principal sent a note home to parents, and a recorded phone call was also made earlier in the day.

On Friday the school will offer counseling to any students who may have been shaken up by the event.
