HOUSTON - Thursday was moving day at Rice. The university moved a 20-ton house designed and built by students onto a truck.

The truck will take a week to take the house across the country to Washington D.C., where the so-called zero house will compete against 19 other universities from around the world in the Department of Energy's solar decathlon.

" A lot of my college career has been about getting ready for these three weeks," said Roque Sanchez, a Rice University Graduate Student.

The contest will run through October. Afterward, the home will be returned to Houston's third ward and most likely be used as an art education center in the community.
