Thursday, the neighborhood surrounding Stella Road was much quieter - back to being quiet as it normally is, though residents say they are still very shaken by what happened inside the vacant house.

"I was glad it was over with," said Vanessa Flores.

Glad, because today Flores and her son can finally walk down the street again.

Flores and dozens others living in the area, were forced to evacuate Wednesday - while dozens of officers and swat teams moved in. After an intense manhunt, police found 34-year-old Julio Reyes holed up in this house with ex-girlfriend 24-year-old Racheal Hillsman.

"We all left barefooted, I didn't take my purse because the police said we gotta get out of here," said Flores.

Reyes, who has a 13-month-old child with Hillsman, kidnapped her outside her parents house early Tuesday morning.

"I don't know what happened to him - that's not him no the person I seen so many time play with the kids and just having fun with his kids," said Eric Matthews, Hillsman's next door neighbor.

Hillsman's neighbors said they never noticed any problems, but did notice Reyes hadn't been around for weeks.

"At first you used to see his truck and motorcycle often, but then he stopped showing up," Matthews said.

The Sheriff's Department says Hillsman recently started dating someone new - which sparked an argument on Monday. They say Reyes plotted the kidnapping, even broke into the house, which is just around the corner from Hillsman's, and hung black sheets over the windows before ever bringing her there.

"It was really terrifying," Flores said. "I've seen too many people with guns - never seen that before."

After a six-hour standoff, Reyes released Hillsman before shooting himself in the head. Authorities say Hillsman's wrists were swollen from being handcuffed the majority of the time. They say he had duct taped her mouth and pointed the gun at her head several times. Hillsman was obviously very shaken, but physically unharmed.

Now, Brookshire police will process Reyes' truck, which is sitting at the department, for additional clues.

The Brookshire Police Chief says they plan to talk to Hillsman in the near future, but at this time they want to give her some time to recover from this tragic event.
