Office Towers and many other buildings will be dark on Friday night. They've agreed to turn off their lights.
It's the second year that the Greater Houston Partnership has sponsored "Lights out Houston."
All the large real estate owners are taking part. Even the Houston Independent School District is turning off the lights at it's schools.
Organizers are also asking that the participating companies conserve all year round. "We asked all the participating building owners to pledge that they are going to be turning off unnecessary lights on an ongoing basis night after night. So this is not a one time event" said Andy Bergman of the Greater Houston Partnership.
The local electric utilities are tracking how much money is saved. Last year local businesses saved a combined $67,000 on a single night. Bergman says if the companies turned the lights off every night that would turn into an $8 million dollar savings per year.
