It's the day before Mothers' Day and like flower shops everywhere, Plants N Petals in the River Oaks area, are inundated with special orders.

"People spend a lot of money for mom," said Sean Norgaart, a store employee. "Mom takes care of everybody, so they take care of mom."

The turbulent stock market and sluggish economy seems to have little effect when it comes to honoring the most important women in our lives.

"It's about making them feel special one day out of the year because they make their children feel special all year," said 23 year-old Ashley Moore, who bought a bouquet for her mother.

At the nearby Motherhood Center, mothers with young kids could celebrate the maternal holiday by bonding with their child during Mommy and Me Classes or Baby Yoga.

"It's nice to be together and learn about things that make a family whole," said Jennifer Luke, a mother of two.

While it isn't always easy, mothers at the center say motherhood is a privilege and a proud accomplishment.

"it's incredible... To see the life in the little ones... It's great," said Annie Hewitt.

Hewitt runs the photo studio at the Motherhood Center and parents-to-be, the Khudairis are her clients.

"I have a wonderful husband and today, he's treating me to this photo shoot for Mother's Day," said Catherine Khudairi, who's 9 months pregnant.

Subhi Khudairi said he's starting the tradition where dads step in during the early years to celebrate mom on the kids' behalf.

"I think it's the father's job to make the mother feel special on Mothers' Day especially in the early years when there are a lot of hard work to put in," said Subhi Khudairi. "Hopefully I'll be an example to our children to respect their mother and value their mother."

From pictures to petals, mothers to-be, and moms young and old should relax and enjoy being pampered on her special day.
