HOUSTON (AP) - The Coast Guard has rescued four stranded fishermen from an oil rig in the Texas Gulf Coast.

Responding to a Friday morning mayday call from a sinking 25-foot boat, a Coast Guard helicopter and rescue crafts rushed to the scene about 20 miles off Sabine Pass.

Two private boats in the vicinity arrived first. They reported that the 25-footer had capsized, but all four men on board swam to a nearby oil rig.

The Coast Guard plucked them from the rig and transported them back to Station Sabine Pass, where they were reported in good condition.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Renee C. Aiello characterized those who responded to the urgent marine broadcast as good Samaritans who acted as the Coast Guard's eyes and ears.
