HOUSTON—
Thousands of pro-life Houstonians and people from out of state marched through Southeast Houston Monday morning. The group rallied against a new six-story Planned Parenthood facility."We're drawing attention to this because at 78,000 square feet, it will be the largest abortion facility in America and the second largest in the world," said Matt Lockett, who is pro-life. "It's second only to China as best we can determine."
Pro-life supporters held a rally and march. At both events, they covered their mouths with tape as a show of unity against abortion and the building.
"We can put that on and we don't have to scream and shout, but a simple word like life, or in this case vida, can send a message all across the nation," said Lockett.
Pro-choice supporters say it's not about the size of the building, but women's rights.
"They can say that and they can call other people out, but I think it's a fundamental fact that abortion is not murder and women have to have control over that part of their body or they're no more than slaves," said Jamilah Hoffman, who is pro-choice.
They say they have a message of their own to send.
"If these people are there, I think there's going to be a whole lot more people in support of this movement because women deserve the right to control their bodies and control their reproduction," said Hoffman.
Organizers did not have an exact number on those marching, but said well over 10,000 people signed up.
Planned Parenthood did not have a comment about today's rally. The organization says the new facility will be up and running sometime in March.
