Swimming pools are making a big splash and comeback just in time for summer. Right now, many local pool builders are experiencing a boom in business.

"As soon as it started getting warmer all of a sudden our phone lit up," said Scott Manby with the Ecore Group, a landscape and pool company out of Richmond.

The spike in business is an about face from last year when the landscaping and pool industry seemed to be sinking rather than swimming.

"Due to the excessively wet winter and the excessively frozen winter that we had the landscaping and pool industries were pretty much in lockdown," said Manby.

As the economic recovery began to take hold homeowners Don and Lisa Ashabranner decided it was time to take the plunge and invest in a pool for the future.

"We stressed about the decision for quite a while. It's a significant major investment," said Don Ashabranner.

He and his family are not the only ones on their block preparing to make a splash this summer.

"We saw several trucks in the neighborhood building pools," said Lisa Ashabranner.

The Ashabranner are holding off on buying a new car, but as for their family vacation this year - it will be ready in six weeks.
