HOUSTON—
Religious leaders and people from different faiths united for immigration reform at a local church Sunday. The prayer service was held on Sunday afternoon in southeast Houston, it's part of campaign by the metropolitan organization. The group is reaching out to immigrant families hoping their message reaches the Obama administration.Faith brought them together but an even greater hope has them joining forces. Religious leaders, immigrant families and those who support immigration reform; rallied and prayed at the Catholic Charismatic Center.
"This was an effort to put all the people of faith together," said Mecias Pedraza.
Among the crowd, people of different religions are wanting to express the same message.
"We've all been immigrants and our families and it's time that we sought justice for all these people," said Susane DeVinny.
Pastor Kevin Collins said he hears the fear in the voices of immigrant families, he said they worry the broken system will rip them apart.
"We have to get people animated to give Washington a push," said Pastor Collins. "Every day that we wait affects more and more lives."
The Metropolitan Organization that held the service handed out post cards. Each one will reach senators John Cornyn, Kay Bailey Hutchinson and local representatives. More than 10,000 have already been collected and they expect to get more.
"We need to open our doors and our hearts and hospitality to immigrants," said Rev. Robin Reeves
The organization hopes their message will be loud and clear.
