BAYTOWN, TX—
A family in Baytown is now known as heroes. Their restaurant was terrorized by a teen looking for some quick cash. Instead, he got a wrestling match and a trip to jail.Things are back to normal at the Taqueria Sahuayuo where the tortillas are hand-rolled and made to order. Earlier this week, the family-owned business got a customer with a gun who wanted a lot more than food.
Baytown police said the 16-year-old suspect came in around closing time with a black wrap over this face to conceal his identity. He made it clear that he was ready to shoot if he didn't get cash.
Next, the family said the suspect tried to take them hostage. There were no customers in the store at this time. It was just the owners -- Analuisa Higareda and her husband, their young children and their teenage son.
Suddenly, with the family's entire world in danger, something inside them snapped.
When the suspect took his finger off the gun's trigger, the family took matters into their own hands.
"That's when everyone started fighting with him, trying to take the gun away from him," employee Yazmin Rodriguez said. "[Mr. Higareda] threw [the suspect] to the floor and everyone started kicking him."
The older son then jumped on the suspect and held him down until Baytown police pulled up. Police said the teen suspect later confessed to committing additional robberies in the area.
As for the employees, they now know not to make the bosses mad.
"I know they are strong and everything, but I didn't know they could do all of that to him," Rodriguez said. "Beware of the family because they are aggressive. When they are mad and [you] mess with their family, they get into it."
Would-be criminals should now know that robbery is not on the menu at this taqueria.
The Baytown Police Department is looking to talk with anyone who might know more about this case. If you have information, call BPD at 281-422-8371 or Crime Stoppers at 281-427-TIPS.
