Quick cash could be right around the corner if you take a seasonal job. Many businesses are overwhelmed with customers during the holiday months and need your help.

For example, retail jobs typically pay anywhere from $7 to $16 an hour with an average of $9 to $10 an hour.

Experts say the weak economy is no excuse not to look for seasonal jobs. Here's some good news too. In a recent Careerbuilder.com survey, 40% of employers said they might hire seasonal workers in a full-time status after the holidays.

Amir Ghazanfar-Pour, the owner at Top Florists in The Woodlands, is one of those people. When he is not busy arranging bouquets, right now he's arranging to hire extra workers for the holiday.

"Usually we are hiring drivers and designers mostly," Ghazanfar-Pour told us.

He's not the only one with a want ad. Big chain retailers and food joints need more staff coming up too.

Career expert Bonnie Monych, known as "Your WorkPlace Doctor," says you can go online to apply, but you might want to go in person. She says hiring managers tend to be very busy people.

"Someone walks in off the street that looks pretty good, sounds pretty good, they might hire that person on the spot so those people in the stack might not get a chance to come in and interview," Monych told us.

If working retail is not for you, get creative. Think of service jobs you can do like house or pet sitting, holiday decorating or even personal shopping.

"So a lot of people think it's just a part time job, that's a mistake," Monych warned.

Don't make the mistakes Monych has seen over and over again:

- Dress to impress when picking up an application – many times you could get an interview on the spot.
- Prepare to fill out the applications – know your Social Security number and references for example.
- Be dependable – show up on time and don't party too hard in your off time.

Who knows, this seasonal gig could lead to good things.

"Most companies like to rehire really good part-time workers again," Monych said.
