Arqam Abdali and Maaz Adil might seem like your typical college students, but they're breaking the norm and spending spring break in Haiti.

"We were planning a trip to Galveston, or something, but when we heard about this program, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity," said Abdali.

The program is part of Helping Hand USA.

It's an organization both students are involved with.

"We are having a project called, Youth for Haiti, in which we are sending 10 youth every week," Adil said.

The project will last four weeks, with students from all over the United States traveling to Haiti.

The goal is for college kids to assist American doctors and to build dozens of wooden shelters.

"This is better than what they have right now, which is tents," said Abdali. "So, our job will be primarily to work on these shelters."

The friends know it will be a quick trip, but they think it will be time well spent.

"Hopefully, I can go to sleep saying somehow I contributed to the people of Haiti," Abdali said.

The two friends are leaving Sunday and they'll be in Haiti for one week.
