SUGAR LAND - Sugar Land Mayor James Thompson was robbed at gunpoint in front of his home Tuesday night. Thompson had just returned from a city council meeting when he says he was confronted in his driveway.

"I think the real message is, it could happen to anybody," Thompson said.

It happened in the 2600 block of Hodges Bend Circle.

Thompson said the gun was about a foot from his face and the suspect told him to get under his Chevy Tahoe. Within 30 seconds, Thompson said the suspect was gone. He made off with about $100 and a cell phone. Police think the attack was random, the suspect may not have even known Thompson was the mayor.

'I certainly wanted to remain calm, it was a good idea for cooler heads to prevail at the time," Thompson said.

Thompson may be a big help to Sugar Land Police. He says the suspect looks similar to a composite sketch of a suspect from another driveway robbery in Sugar Land last week.

Police plan to increase patrols in the area.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $5,000 award for information that leads to an arrest or charge in the case.
