Several gunmen burst into a home in the Sugar Lakes subdivision in Sugar Land and those robbers are on the run.
Police are not sure why the family was targeted but officials are checking in with other departments in the area to see if the men are linked to other crimes.
Inside a two story home in Sugar Land, An elderly couple and their two daughters were victims of a home invasion. It happened Monday night at the 1100 block of Sugar Lakes.
"They did have hand guns and when they were inside they tied all four of the occupants," said Capt. Michelle Allen, with the Sugar Land police department.
Capt. Allen said the four men wore masks. They kicked in the back door and stormed in surprising the victims.
The men searched the home looking for money. They took off with about 1,000 dollars. Eventually the father got free and called police.
Neighbors quickly found out about the crime through an "e-police" alert. It's a new system that notifies residents of crime in their area. People can sign up for the free service online.
"It also allows them to communicate with police officers when they have this kind of activity come up," said Capt. Allen. "(They can find out) what (they) can do to prevent (themselves) from being a victim."
Luckily, the victims of Monday night's home invasion were not physically harmed but it has definitely made people in the subdivision more vigilant.
