When you think of all the holiday traditions in Houston you likely think of the Uptown Lights, or the Christmas tree in front of City Hall. But now there's another tradition you don't see --you just hear it.

From Thanksgiving to Christmas Day Sunny 99.1 goes from a contemporary light-rock format to music that goes with Christmas lights.

24 hours a day, seven days a week, the station plays nothing but Christmas songs. There's a lot of Mariah Carey, Josh Groban and a classic from Burl Ives.

"Have a Holly Jolly Christmas...."

The format is now a financial gift for parent company Clear Channel.

"December is a very good month for us," Program Director Marc Sherman, said.

Sherman won't give exact numbers--although the station website is busy. Pre-Thanksgiving they get about 5,000 hits a day. This month they average 25,000 visits each day.

"The way it is now--half of the people in Houston will be exposed to the station this month," Sherman said.

That means chances are good you or someone you know will hear a song from 99.1 this month.

Cab Driver Robert Merlus has it on every day.

"I'll listen all the time the customers say it's gorgeous"

The most requested song this year: The Christmas Hippotamus Song. It was recorded in 1953 by 10 year-old Gayla Peevey.

An old song you won't hear this year: Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer. The station says it's time to give grandma a rest.

The holiday songs will continue until 12:01am December 26th.
