HOUSTON -
We have an update to a heartbreaking story we brought you as breaking news Tuesday on 39 News at 9. 2-year-old Jayden Woodward died after being trapped in a hot car for more than six hours. 39 News returned to the scene on Wednesday and has new information on what happened to Jayden Woodward.
"It's been very rough because we keep expecting to hear his, you know, little feet tromping down the hallway," said Judi Warren, who is Jayden's grandmother.
The grandmother of Jayden Woodward said the 2-year-old climbed into the back of a car, opened the door to play and locked himself inside.
"And in the heat of the day ... we can just hope that he just cried himself to sleep," said Warren.
The 78-year-old babysitter was reportedly inside of the house when Jayden was outside. Jayden was in the car for hours when Shanna Woodward found her only son inside. CPR was given but not in time. The babysitter had watched Jayden before.
"How she could be sitting on the coach watching TV right by the door, and not know that he went outside?" asked Warren in disgust.
Emmett Land said he wasn't home when Jayden climbed into his car. Emmett's mother was babysitting on Tuesday.
"My advice to my momma is 'you ain't babysitting no kids period. I don't care who they are,'" Land told 39 News.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office said no charges have been filed to the babysitter. But once officials are done with the investigation, they'll present their findings to the grand jury, who will then determine if charges will be filed.
