TOMBALL, TX -
A Tomball teenager is accused of killing a 23-month-old girl with a video game controller.
Julie Maus was killed by her mother's live-in boyfriend, according to Tomball Police.
"Basically he made some excuses that the child had fallen down, or that the when he tossed the child on the bed that she bounced off the bed and hit a pillar on the bed," said Captain Rickey Doerre of the Tomball Police.
Detectives say the injuries to little Julie were not consistent with what they were being told by 17-year-old Ethan Wolfe. Eventually, police says Wolfe confessed.
The incident happened at the Fountain Apartments on Village Square Drive in Tomball.
"He said he was playing a video game, that the child had got in the way of the game, and possibly (relieved herself) on him. It frustrated him and caused him to loose the game. He struck the child three or four times with the controller of the video game. Then he picked the child up, and threw the child up on the bed," said Doerre.
Police says Wolfe did not initially realize the baby was unresponsive. It wasn't until he went to check on her that realized something was wrong.
Wolfe is being prosecuted as an Adult for the crime that happened in mid July.
"He was filed on for injury to a child first degree, which carries the same punishment as murder," Doerre said.
Doerre said the District Attorney could upgrade the charge to murder, but so far that has not happened.
