Granados was taken by a private vehicle to the hospital with severe abdominal pain on Feb. 8, 2008. While she was waiting to be admitted, she gave birth to a child in the lobby bathroom, officials said. According to investigators, the new mother then cut the umbilical cord, placed the baby boy in a trash can and covered him with paper towels.

A member of housekeeping found the infant while cleaning the bathroom. Doctors resuscitated the baby, who was brain dead until he died 11 days later when doctors took him off life support.

A trail of blood that day led from the bathroom to Granados, sitting in a wheelchair in the lobby. She admitted giving birth to the child in the bathroom and placing him in the trashcan, officials said.
