Winter maybe two weeks away, but already Houstonians are feeling it.
"50 degrees is cold for me," said Jim Ballard.
And it's about to get colder.
On Friday, a cold front may bring something you don't see very often in the Bayou city.
"We just don't do too much snow down here, but when it comes it is really something to look forward to, I think," said Karin Schulte.
The last time it snowed in Houston was on December 10, 2008. The winter weather also brought with it a traffic nightmare of accidents and closures due to icy roads.
The potential for a similar event has crews with the Texas Department of Transportation already planning ahead. On Thursday, TxDot crews will soak roadways with a deicing solution in portions of Harris County along with Montgomery County and Waller County.
"What happens with this deicing agent, that they place on the ground, is it acts as a barrier to prevent the water accumulation from actually freezing and causing ice," said Karen Othon, spokesperson with the Texas Department of Transportation.
Even so, some people say they'll be staying off the roadways.
"I work out of my home, so if its, if traffic is bad I won't drive. No, I won't drive in Houston in the snow," said Jim Ballard.
For those who have to drive, they'll be leaving a little early and driving a little slower.
"Probably would drive slower. I lived in Salt Lake City for a year so I am kind of use to driving in snow and ice. So, I would just take precautions," said Jordan Bauer.
Icy roads are not the only concern.
"It's important that when we get freezing conditions to take care of what we call the four P's:pipes, plants, pets, and people," said Mark Sloan with the Harris County Office Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
Sloan and other emergency officials will be monitoring Friday's winter storm closely. They are urging driver to be extra careful and pay attention.
