One local Jazz Musician is up for 3 Houston Press Music Awards, 2 more than she was nominated for in 2008.
Kristine Mills is well-known in Houston for her soul-driven jazz sound. Her nominations include Best Jazz, Best Female Vocals, and for Local Musician Of The Year.
"As a singer you hope to get accolades for your craft and you work," said Mills, "And then Musician of the Year, it took me a little while to let that sink in and then wow, it's a big responsibility."
The Houston Press Music Awards Showcase is Sunday, July 26. 50 bands will be taking 10 stages in Downtown Houston with a $10 public admission price.
The weekly paper allowed the public to vote on their favorite musicians in the Houston area, then invited them to rock out at venues, including the House of Blues, the Hard Rock Cafe, Isis Houston, and Rocabar.
The Music Awards Showcase starts at 5 p.m.
Voters have until then to cast their votes for their favorite nominated local bands.
