A Transportation Security Administration agent was arrested and charged with grand larceny after police said she stole $5,000 in cash from a passenger during a security check at JFK Airport Wednesday.According to authorities, 31-year-old Alexandra Schmid swiped the cash from the passenger's jacket when it went through the X-ray conveyor belt at around 8 p.m.
Schmid was arrested after surveillance video captured her removing the money from the coat and high-tailing it to the bathroom.
Investigators are still trying to locate the cash and believe Schmid may have passed it along to someone.
Schmid has been suspended pending an investigation, officials said.
