A veteran Chicago news anchor was forced to make an on-air apology to viewers for saying during a newscast "for adults" that Santa Claus isn't real. She went on to say that "as soon as kids can talk there is no Santa…He's not coming down the chimney and eating those cookies and he's not bringing you anything". The anchor Robin Robinson, clearly a fake name, is also a mother herself.

I understand her point, but breaking tradition is a hard sell! It's a serious subject for parents because Santa ultimately leads to a letdown for kids! Yes it’s exciting to believe and its fun to see how pumped kids get over the idea of a bearded dude in a red suit with a sleigh and reindeer bringing presents. However, my producer/editor was never taught to believe in Santa and she says her Christmas’s were just as special. I can clearly remember the look my youngest daughter gave me when she realized Santa was actually, mom and dad. The look was a combination, "awww that sucks" which changed to "and you lied to me?!"

Can you remember the letdown you felt when you found out the truth?!

Anyway for the windy city TV station to force their anchor to apologize for doing her job, relating to the audience and discussing a topic we all deal with, is wrong. Under what pressure? A complaint? Maybe two?  Threat of lawsuit by the North Pole?

If you ask me she did people a favor. Christmas has become too commercial anyway, and more about presents rather than peace, goodwill and the deeper spiritual meaning.
