The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles voted down Texas license plates displaying the confederate flag.  That’s good! Although not conceived as a racist symbol, but rather a military battle flags, in 2011 nobody needs to be waving that flag unless you own a '69 charger called the General Lee (Dukes of Hazard).

I don't mind the other special Texas plates you can get, but on the subject of personalized license plates, and I’ll admit I had one once for my motorcycle when I was 16, I don't get why any adult would need one in today's world. Identity theft is huge, why display your last name or to call added attention to yourself? Heck, I don't even want people to see or remember my randomly issued plate and the Montgomery county sheriff’s now have a mini-helicopter equipped with an infrared camera that can clearly read your license plate from an elevation of 1200 feet! No thanks, and I’m not going to make it easy for 'em! The other day I saw a personalized plate that said "737 cap", obviously a pilot that feels the need to tell the world what he does for a living?!

Looking for approval, self-worth issues, a huge ego? I don't mean to pick on this guy, but what word or message is so compelling that you have to tell the world on your license plate? Every once in a while on a classic car or motorcycle you do see a cool one, but for the most part when you put a vanity plate on your car there's only one word that comes through loud and clear…w-h-y !
