The ugly, sordid story about the Houston rich guy who adopted his bed buddy, just got weirder.
First, 47-year-old John Goodman, the multi-millionaire owner of Florida’s International Polo Club (www.internationalpoloclub.com), found himself in the middle of a wrongful death lawsuit related to a traffic accident that killed a 23-year-old Florida man two years ago. Goodman is alleged to have been drunk at the time.
The family of Scott Wilson has filed a civil lawsuit against Goodman, and now they’re asking a judge for an emergency injunction to stop him from selling a large horse stable in Texas that is part of a trust he set up for his kids, and to let them appraise the polo club.
The judge ruled he has no jurisdiction over the trust and the sale, he ruled in favor of the appraisal. The lawyers argue it's all relevant since Goodman adopted his adult girlfriend in October, some say to tap into the trust fund he set up for his natural son and daughter.
But now, those kids have gone to court, saying the adoption is not about family love, but about letting dear-old dad get his hands on about $5 million a year they can’t get because they’re not old enough, not like their new older sister.
"He has chosen to adopt his girlfriend as his child. As a result he has requested she be declared a beneficiary of the trust. As a result we filed an emergency motion for relief,' said Scott Smith, the attorney for the Wilson family.
The dirty daddy’s attorney says he’s just trying to protect the trust in case he goes to jail for being drunk in that fatal accident.
