Looking for a job is a job in itself. Now a lead recruiter at Google has a new book filled with the secrets he's learned, that can help you out.

Michael Junge is a recruiter at Google, one of the hottest companies in the world. Being the guy that everyone wants to get a job from feels "pretty fantastic", according to Junge.

"Purple Squirrel is an industry term that we use to describe really hard to find talent," said Junge.

So in this digital age, how can you make sure you stand out?

Michael says, "one of the best things i know how to do is to spend time reading job descriptions, that way you can identify specific key words and phrases that are going to be standing out in the mind of your audience - the recruiters and HR professionals that are hunting for relvant talent".

While majority of us spend time searching and applying online, that's not enough.

"Take an extra minute, see if you have a friend of a friend connection. If that doesn't work, take the time to identify a human resources professional or recruiter and reach out to them directly," says Junge.

While many job postings say no phone calls and no emails, that rule can be broken.

Mike says, "I can't recommend it, but I think that making a human connection makes a huge difference in the hiring process. They are sorting through huge amounts of information and your job really is to catch their attention and make it easier for them to say yes".

When it is negotiation time, if you can't get a higher salary, there are other things you can ask for too.

"These days you hear about people looking for flexible work environments, work from home arrangements, pet car, child care, vacation travel. There's all kinds of things", said Junge.

Purple Squirrel isn't just about landing a job, it's about being happy there too.

Mike says, "It's about what you do after you land the job so that you take it and make it stick and turn it into a really fantastic career".
