  19. Houston SPCA Helps Rescue 8 Horses Stranded in Flood Waters

(HOUSTON April 29, 2009) Earlier today, the Houston SPCA teamed up with the Harris County Sheriffs Department Livestock Division and the Precinct 5 Constables Department to assist with the rescue of 8 horses which were found swimming in a pasture in Northwest Houston after Monday mornings’ torrential downpour. The rain caused Bear Creek to overflow and submerge the pasture which is close to 70 acres, underwater. The 8 horses were discovered swimming in the pasture by a helicopter flying over the area around 4 pm yesterday afternoon. The owner of the property stated the water dumped in this area in just 24 hours was substantially more than was left behind from the wrath of Hurricane Ike.

  21. Inspecting Your Produce

Insects are coming from other countries, and they're causing some damage. Workers at the Port of Freeport are always busy loading and unloading goods imported from around the world. Workers must hand inspect all of the products, one by one, looking for bugs or plants that don't belong. It didn't take long to find a type of grasshopper not native to the U.S. found in a batch of bananas.
