  3. Houston Tops List for Most DWI Deaths

With around 10-thousand cases filed every year, statistics show Harris County leads the country in DWI fatalities. Just in the last 20 days four people were killed or severely injured in drunk driving accidents. On May 23, HPD officer Lloyd Morrison was investigating a one-car crash on the Gulf Freeway when not one, but two cars slam into his patrol unit, pinning him between a fire truck. On May 28th, a woman was hit and killed on the Hardy Toll Road, never making it to the airport to pick up her son. On June 1st, Thomas Shuster, a Cy-Fair volunteer firefighter, lost both legs after he was hit by a man driving a stolen car. Six days later, a good samaritan, is killed while helping a stranded driver. They were all hit by drunk drivers. "We see things sometimes we can't forget," said HPD Officer Paul Lasalle.
