In short.... not anytime soon. It has been a rough summer. Triple digits returned yesterday, for the 16th time this summer! Looking back at the records, it has been astounding. One such record that caught my eye: high temperatures (at Houston Intercontinental) have been below average only four times this summer. Comparatively speaking, that says alot. I have a feeling this summer will go down as one of the top 5 warmest summers, if not the warmest. We still have another month or so to go.

If that was not enough, it is not only hot, its humid. A heat advisory is in effect for today. The good news appears to be a weak front is headed our way. The bad news: it is not going to cool us down, but perhaps just bring us some drier air. Temperatures tomorrow should still hover around the century mark. Rain is a good bet today too, which of course is much needed.

Lack of rain has contributed to our extreme summer. With many places 8 to 10 inches, and even more in the hole, southeast Texas has dried out. The drier the soil and the less rain you get, the quicker the atmosphere warms up, and the more extreme temeperatures can become. In past very dry years, the drought breaker has often been something from the tropics. We certainly do not need another hurricane, but hopefully a few rainmakers will head our way. Right now, the tropics have quited a bit, with Bill still churning out in the Atlantic, and posing little threat to land. Lets hope El Nino kicks in soon!
