Remember 1980? That summer, over 25 years ago, was one of the more memorable heat waves in the Houston area. June finished out that year with 6 days of triple digits, culminating on the 30th with a high of 103 degrees. The streak continued in July with a string of triple digits, making it one of the hottest summers on record.
Fast forward to 2009, and we are flirting with those kind of numbers. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday should see temperatures in the near the century mark, which would put some records from 1980 in jeopardy.
June 24th, 1980: 99 Projected High: 101
June 25th, 1980: 100 Projected High: 100
There is light at the end of the tunnel... It appears that a cool down may be in the offing by next weekend, and maybe a few drops of rain. Chances remain low. Maybe the bigger story is the drought. We are now on day 29 on no measurable rainfall at Bush. Despite a shower that dropped nearly an inch of rain near Tomball yesterday, the radar has been empty.
As we head into July, temperatures historically cllimb, but it is hard to believe it could get any warmer than it is now. Stay cool!
